Now Hiring: MSHSL Debate Community Coaches

Are you knowledgeable about debate? Do you have an educator’s mindset and a passion for helping students grow? Share your expertise and make a difference for debaters from MNUDL’s partner schools in the Twin Cities!

We’re hiring Community Coaches for our 2024-25 MSHSL fall debate season, which focuses on policy debate. By sharing your debate knowledge with our local teams, you’ll help students develop their skills, confidence, and understanding of the world. This transformative opportunity is only possible with caring coaches!

Pay Rate:

• Community Coaches are paid $3,000 for the season.

Responsibilities:

• Practice once or twice a week (90-120 minutes) in-person at your placement school from early September to early January. (Coaches are not expected to coach on days where there is no school.)
• Attend 7 tournaments with your team. There are 7 core tournaments we recommend teams attend, but we can be flexible depending on coaches’ schedules. Tournaments are a mix of virtual and in-person engagements.

Requirements:

• Must be 18+ (if you’re under 18, please consider applying to be a middle school debate community coach instead)
• Must be able to pass a background check and be willing to undergo mandatory reporter training
• Must live/travel in the Greater Twin Cities Metropolitan Area (the role includes significant in-person obligations in the urban core)

Additional Details:

• You will be placed at a school that fits your interests and availability. This includes coaching novice and/or JV/Varsity.
• You will be joined by at least one co-coach, who you will be planning and co-coaching with.
