America’s debate community showed up for Minnesota

When federal actions made it unsafe for many of our students to debate in person, we called upon the nationwide debate network to show their support.
What happened next overwhelmed us with love.
150 debate community members from across the United States sent messages of love and solidarity to our students. Coaches, debaters, volunteers, and alumni from nearly every state in the nation showed up for Minnesota. Donations are coming in keep virtual debate running and to make sure every student who couldn’t safely leave their home still felt seen, celebrated, and supported.
Valentine cards and goody bags were delivered to students through safe channels – small but powerful reminders that they are not alone, that their voices matter, and that an entire nation of debaters is standing with them.
We’re so grateful to everyone who sent a message, made a donation, or simply took a moment to tell a Minneapolis middle schooler that their voice matters: thank you. You reminded our students that the community they’ve built through debate extends far beyond Minnesota’s borders, and that no amount of fear or intimidation can silence what they’ve built together.
A sampling of your incredible messages is below. Read them and share them. Let them remind you what people are capable of when they lead with love.
