Microsoft Raises $5,430 for MNUDL Through Halloween Debate

The Spooky Roommate Debate, a fundraiser for MNUDL by Microsoft.

When vampires faced off against werewolves at Microsoft, they summoned $5,430 for the Minnesota Urban Debate League!

Microsoft’s 5th annual MNUDL Debate raised an un-boo-lievable $5,430 for the Minnesota Urban Debate League. The spine-tingling question: Who makes a better roommate: werewolves or vampires?

Our wickedly talented lineup included:

Team Werewolf

  • Sean McNellis, Principal Technical Program Manager
  • Sarah Welty, Principal UX Research Manager

Team Vampire

  • Valerie Bergman, Strategic Account Executive
  • Tom Knobel-Piehl (TKP), Director, Federal Program Management Delivery

Arguments flew in a supernatural showdown debated with bone-chilling intensity.

The real “stakes” of the vampire debate is that the donations help revive debate programs in schools that lost debate funding decades ago. Your support funds coaching stipends, tournament transportation, debate materials, and programming, increasing school attendance, improving academic performance, and helping students learn to advocate for themselves and their communities.

Special thanks to Barb Schmitt for hosting five years of fundraising debates and our fang-tastic student judges who showed us exactly why this program matters.

Enjoy watching the debate!
