SPPS Debate coach David Quosig named NAUDL Coach of the Year
Congratulations to Washington Technology High School’s David Quosig, named the National Association for Urban Debate Leagues’ Coach of the Year!
The NAUDL Coach of the Year award recognizes that teachers who coach debate are essential to the Urban Debate Network meeting NAUDL’s core mission: helping students to become more academically successful — and civically engaged — through the support and rigor of debate. This award honors that work.
He is the first ever Minnesota Urban Debate League coach to win this prestigious national honor in our 20 year history.
Quosig receives a $1,000 honorarium and a trip to Chicago in March to receive the award. He was presented with the award in a ceremony at Washington Technology Magnet School.
David Quosig was surprised with the award in a ceremony held at Washington Technology Magnet School.
One of his novices says: “I love the journey that comes within. Mr. Quosig has played a big role in improving my understanding… We had practices constantly, three times a week. All the debates I’ve gone through have taught me to be the person I have today. Debate has expanded my knowledge in very important topics, and I appreciate that.”
In his nomination, Program Director Jake Swede noted, “He’s been putting in the work for a long time. He’s had a great team during his time at WTMS. As program director, I like to say the great coaches we have are caring, competitive, and consistent. David Quosig has had those traits throughout his career with the MNUDL.”
Coach Quosig has increased the size of the Washington debate team by 30 percent this year alone, while coaching 20 active debaters across novice, JV, and varsity levels. He provides individualized instruction tailored to each student’s experience. His team had perfect attendance at all core tournaments this year. He also coaches the robotics team, and is advisor for the Anime club.
